Virtual Gallery | Collins / O’Neill Dec. 2013

Okay, I’ll admit it. I have an enthusiasm (or shall we just call it a bias?) for painting, and for realism, in particular. So, it’s no surprise that this month’s featured artists, Ginny O’Neill and Rebecca Collins, are both painters in the realist vein.
I love Ginny O’Neill’s sense of light, and quiet color as she portrays places, people, and animals. Her chosen medium of watercolor is the perfect vehicle for capturing the quiet mood of Whidbey Island. Her paintings can be found at Brackenwood Gallery in Langley.
Rebecca Collins’ paintings are rich in strong color and composition. She also paints Whidbey vistas, but also works on images from her travels of places farther a field. Working in oil pastels gives her control and detail, but her blending techniques make them virtually indistinguishable from traditional oil paintings.
I hope you enjoy this month’s gallery. Please visit the individual profiles for Ginny and Rebecca for more information on where to find them and their work. December is a great time to visit galleries and artist studios.

The Featured Artists’ Gallery is sponsored by Walking Woman Productions and has been created as a means for Whidbey Island visual artists to bring new and experimental work closer to the public eye. While Whidbey Island is well-represented by several high-quality art galleries, for the un-represented artist there is a lack of venues in which to show ones’ work. Established and emerging artists alike may utilize the Featured Artists’ Gallery to exhibit new work, gain experience and receive feedback. All work exhibited is for sale. Please visit the website link provided for each artists’ complete contact information. Artists are invited to participate by the gallery curators, if you think your work is suitable for a show, please contact us at info@whidbeylifemagazine.org.
