Looking for some spooky Halloween fun for the family this week? Here’s a list of what’s happening around the island!

• Island Greens golf course in Clinton presents “Zombie Apocalypse” 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, Saturday, Oct. 26, and Sunday, Oct. 27 at Island Greens Golf Course in Clinton. Take a 15-minute walk through the zombie-infested golf course into the safe zone with a military escort, while dodging zombie attacks, running for your life and trying not to get eaten by a zombie! Admission is $8 for kids under 12; and $10 for everybody else. Island Greens is at 3890 French Road in Clinton. Event happens rain or shine!

 

 

• The American Legion Riders along with South Whidbey High School Class of 2014 will hold a Haunted House Fundraiser at the American Legion Post 141 off of Highway 525 in Bayview. The house will be open from 5 to 6 p.m. for “Pumpkin Hour” for kids 5 to 10 years old; and from 6 to 10 p.m. for “Witching Hour” for all who dare to enter! The Haunted House will be open Friday, Oct. 25, Saturday, Oct. 26 and Thursday, Oct. 31 on Halloween. Only on Halloween come Trick-or-Treat at our Trunk-or-Treat, plus a costume and carved pumpkin contest! Food and concessions will be available. Admission is $6. Bring a non-perishable food item and receive $1 discount!

 

• Kids, don’t miss the very special “Halloween Spooktacular” event!  from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26 in Freeland. The woods have fallen under an evil spell. The spell will not be broken until a beloved character is freed from the cold-hearted clutches of the ghoulish vampires. All brave souls, who dare to enter the haunted wood, will embark on a quest to break the forest spell. The enchanted wood is located at 2148 Jubilee Lane in Freeland, off East Harbor Road. Come on down and have a fun-filled spooky time, while making sure all children continue to access the magic of theater. Call Whidbey Children’s Theater at 221-8707 or email contact.wct@gmail.com for more info. All donations benefit the Rhianna Kinglet Dickson Hobbs Scholarship Fund.

 

• Celebrate fall with a bonfire at Tilth’s Halloween Harvest Party. Halloween is a time to let go of old habits and incubate new intentions. Everyone is encouraged to think about something to change as the harvest season concludes and prepare for the dormancy of winter. It’s a time to seed and incubate new plans. The last market of 2013 is a Halloween Harvest Party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 at 2812 Thompson Road, off Highway 525. It’s Tilth’s tradition to invite all to jot down intentions and tuck them into a wreath to be ceremonially burned around a bonfire at 2 p.m.as a special offering to the universe.

 

• Ott & Murphy Winery Tasting Room in downtown Langley will hold a Wine & Sugar Skull event from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 and Monday, Oct. 28.  Day of the Dead traditions in Mexico include the making of sugar skulls to honor the spirits of the departed.  As the gates of heaven open at midnight on Oct. 31, the spirits of all deceased children (angelitos) are allowed to reunite with their families for 24 hours. On Nov. 2, the spirits of the adults come down to enjoy the festivities prepared for them. Later, the festivities are taken to the cemetery. People clean tombs, play cards, listen to the village band, and reminisce about their loved ones. This tradition keeps the village close. Come honor the spirits of your deceased loved ones with a Sugar Skull creation, and lift a glass of wine to the dearly departed at the village winery with Ott & Murphy. $30 includes a glass of wine, a 4″ by 3-1/2″ sugar skull, and all the supplies you need to craft your skull with the colorful icings and bright foils provided. • Annual Creepy Concert & Carnival starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29  at the Langley Middle School Auditorium. This annual event is the main fundraiser for the band programs. Hear the 7th Grade Symphonic Band, the 8th Grade Wind Ensemble and LMS Jazz Band perform spooky hits from the past and groovy tunes for the future! However, be prepared for little and large surprises along the way, including door prizes. At 6 p.m. carnival games, a donation raffle, and everyone’s favorite cake walk will commence in the cafeteria, followed by the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets for the carnival are 50 cents each. • Terror takes over at Au Sable with “10 Tales of Terror,” a haunted house at the Au Sable Institute on Parker Road near Coupeville, continues Halloween night from 6 to 10 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for kids. A less frightful “Trick or treat Town” will be held from to 5 to  7 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Coupeville High School Senior Class party.

 

• Costumes, grapes, ghouls Halloween Saturday, Oct. 31, at Greenbank Farm will include both kids and adult entertainment and activities. Kids will get to parade their Halloween costumes and decorate pumpkins down at the Jim Davis House, where a cider press will be pressing apples and kids can do some trick or treating while they are at it. This will go on from 1 to 3 p.m. The weekend is also the Grapes and Ghouls on the Wine Trail event sponsored by Whidbey Island Vintners Association, and local winery FishTalk Vineyards will be hosted at the Greenbank Farm Wine Shop and Tasting Room. The Wine Shop and Tasting Room will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for this event and to the public for regular tasting as well. Sno-Isle Library Foundation will have a fundraising event, which includes a visit from Edgar Allen Poe, along with wine tasting and other activities on Halloween evening.

 

 

• Halloween at the Sherman Farm A narrated trolley tour of the Sherman Farm pumpkin patch is on the agenda Oct. 31 for Meet Feet on Whidbey, from 1 to 3 p.m. Adults, children, and well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome to this free event. Mr. Sherman himself will tell how farming has changed since his family has been working the land in Ebey’s Landing. Visit www.whidbeywalks.com, or call 360-321-0533.

 

• Come to the Enchanted Halloween Forest! from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 at the Whidbey Island Waldorf School, 6335 Old Pietila Road in Clinton. The Enchanted Forest is a wonder-filled celebration! Music, cider and a roaring campfire greet guests as they set off on a guided, magical journey where children and parents meet amazing storybook characters in an enchanted kingdom. The characters will touch your heart with messages of wisdom, humor and light to take with you into the cold, dark season of the year. Come in costume!  Meet the Enchanted Forest Magician! See the jack-o-lantern display and enjoy some pumpkin bowling!  Optional dinner: Warm Homemade Soup and bread/butter ($5).
